Mike Wichman, Ph.D.
Michael D. Wichman: Dr. Wichman has been with the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL) at The University of Iowa since 1987 and currently is the Associate Director of Environmental Health Programs. He also has an appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa. Wichman served as President of the University Staff Council, served on numerous university committees and including the University of Iowa Research Council. He is also active nationally, serving as chair of the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Environmental Health Committee, serving on the EPA Environmental Laboratory Advisory Board (ELAB), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) Environmental Health Policy Committee and The NELAC Institute (TNI) Advocacy Committee. His current research interests include simplifying sample preparation techniques, environmental monitoring for pesticide and industrial chemical degradates, as well as biomonitoring for human metabolites resulting from environmental exposure. Wichman earned an A.S. degree from Iowa Western Community College, B.S and M.S. degrees from Creighton University, Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Kansas State University and a Certificate in Public Health from the University of Iowa.
