Testing
CHEEC conducts comprehensive water testing across the state of Iowa to advance our research mission and provide valuable information to the public. Our testing initiatives are integral to numerous CHEEC research projects and public-facing programs, ensuring the safety and quality of Iowa's water resources.
Get the Lead Out
The Get the Lead Out (GTLO) of Iowans’ drinking water program is a vital statewide initiative aimed at identifying lead levels in drinking water for at-risk Iowans. To make water testing more accessible, the GTLO program offers home water testing kits by mail, available at reduced or no cost. This program empowers Iowans to take proactive steps in ensuring their drinking water is safe from lead contamination.
Lead in Schools
CHEEC is committed to safeguarding the health of Iowa's children through rigorous lead testing in school water systems. By identifying and addressing lead contamination, we strive to create a safer learning environment for students across the state.
Surface water
Our surface water testing program monitors the quality of rivers, lakes, and streams throughout Iowa. This initiative helps us understand the impact of environmental factors on water quality and supports efforts to protect these vital water sources.
Well water
CHEEC provides well water testing services to ensure the safety of private wells, which are a crucial water source for many Iowans. Our testing identifies potential contaminants, including PFAS, pesticides, nitrate, metals, and other inorganic and organic contaminants, offering solutions to maintain clean and safe drinking water.
Water Testing Services
CHEEC offers reduced-price testing for the public, covering a broad range of contaminants. CHEEC is an academic research center that supports student training. While the Center's lab is not EPA certified, its methods are scientifically valid and accurate. Additionally, methods for testing additional analytes such as glyphosate, herbicides, and other contaminants are under development.
Price List (per sample):
- Neonicotinoids and metabolites (24 analytes) - $100
